In Loreto I met up with Flavien and his friends from back home.
Back home for him is Haida Gwaii, a little piece of paradise where one day I hope to return to as well.
His friends came down for a Kayak-trip. And were so kind to let me join in!
Ryan here spends his summers up on Haida Gwaii and is down in Mexico for the winter where he runs Kayak Adventures
So he set up a plan and took us all under his wing. 
And together with local guide Jorge,
showed us some of the beauty of the Sea of Cortez.
It’s a real nice change to see the barren desert from a different perspective than a bike seat. 
It’s also lovely to be able to hop in the water after a warm day and just relax on the beach with good company and good food.
There were 14 of us all together and we had a wonderful week full of swimming,
hiking,
Camping,
even horse back riding.
And, of course, a whole lot of kayaking!
The wild life out here is amazing, I had no idea manta rays can jump out of the water so far!
we’ve seen dolphins
and whales.
And heading down the other side of the peninsula for a day we saw a lot of grey whales as well.
But, even though I enjoyed it all thoroughly, in my mind I’ve already moved on.
For me this kayak-trip was a cherry on top of 15 years roaming around.

Not saying I’m going to stop, completely.
Just saying things are taking another turn from here…

ps: Many have asked me where I am and what I’m up to,
I am (back) in North Carolina now.
But I’ll be in the Netherlands in three weeks and will stay there for a while.

Hello Mirjam. I talked to you for a few minutes before you boarded the ferry to Vancouver Island (I took your ticket and you gave me your website) and I have been following your blog ever since. I was getting worried when there were no post for a time when you were in the Baja. I have thouroughly enjoyed getting to know you and you have been an inspiration in how you have been living your life. I’ve even taken up riding in my old age and hope to do some traveling by bike, if only for short journeys. I’m very happy for you now as I have found children to be the greatest gift. Best wishes from one of many followers. I met you in Australia for the briefest of times, maybe five minutes. It was near Mackay and you were travelling to Eungella Park. I told you we had lived for a while in Schevening which I still can’t pronounce (or spell apparently) so we had a bit in common. My wife and I have been following your blog and enjoying the photos every since. I note you are, or were, in North Carolina. That is my home state. What I love most, is how you draw attention
To the fact that people are good and nice everywhere. We all share the same desires to live happily and free and pursue our lives as we see fit.
I wish this type of “news” were more mainstream, versus “Constantly Negative News” sources we’re bombarded with.
Your cycling adventures remind me of when I was young, and rode “just to see where and how far” I could go. Truly this is what cycling should be: outside and enjoying the world and people.
